I'm having a very frazzled day. This didn't help.

Remember that bike that got stolen? And then found? Yeah, I'm apparently still having to deal with that stuff.

It was stolen, then it was found. But before it was found I had reported the theft to the insurance company, because hey, bikes never get found, the police don't even try, and I wanted it replaced as fast as possible. And then it was, as I said, found.

At which point it seemed like the best thing to do would be to get the old bike back from the police, instead of getting a new one on the insurance, because really, there are better things I could do with those 1500 SEK I had to pay[1]. So I contacted the insurance company, then I contacted the bike company, then I went back and forth a bit. In the end it was agreed that I cancel the bike order, the insurance company don't pay our the insurance and instead sign the old bike back onto me, and I go get it from the police. So that happened.

Then the separately ordered new lock arrived. Big Sigh.

Also I didn't actually get my 1500 back.

So I contacted the people that ran the webshop thingy that the insurance company used for replacing stolen items[2], and told them that 1. I still had the lock, and didn't mind keeping it if that would be easier (and, of course, pay for it myself. It was only about 200 SEK anyway.) and 2. I would like the rest of my 1500 back. They told me they needed to talk to the main organisation, in Denmark. (This was in, iirc, november)

Then I heard nothing.

Until Friday. When I get a letter reminding me that I have 8 business days to pay the ~1200 SEK I owe them. WTF?

So today I called the customer service of the Danish company and asked what was up with the reminder for an amount I've never been told I owe, and shouldn't have to pay, and by the way, should't you be giving me money?

The customer service guy agreed with me, but he said he'd have to get it over to the woman originally responsible for it, and they'd get back to me. Maybe tomorrow.

Oh well, at least he was nice.

[1] Because when you get insurance money there's always a certain portion you have to pay yourself, and then they cover anything over that amount. Don't know what this is called in English, but I assume you have it too.

[2] Oh dear, this sounds confusing. When you get a new bike, eg, through your insurance company, this particular company has elected to have a webshop where you can order a new one and they'll pay for it, instead of sending you a voucher that you can use in your local bike shop.

I am a very lucky person when it comes to bike theft - I have had two bikes stolen, and both have been found by the police. Which never happens.

So now I have to spend tomorrow trying to find out if the retrieved bike is broken or in good shape, if I can send the new bike back at a reasonable cost and if the insurance company will accept this solution. Best case scenario the whole thing will cost me less than 400SEK instead of 1500SEK, which would be nice.

I am also coming to realise that I really have to get new glasses. Bummer.
