This is old, so at least the brits among you have probably seen it - but I had to share anyway 'cause it cracked me up. I'd never heard about the Friday Night Project, but it's a sort of talkshow/SNL hybrid thingy apparently. I found it extremely uneven, but some bits were absolutely hilarious. Watch David Tennant's face when they start talking about WhoPorn - the funny starts at 5:40 and goes to about 7:15.

So, I've now finished watching Doctor Who and Torchwood compulsively, since I ran out of show. I have stopped myself from searching out the Sarah Jane Advetures.

I'm finding Doctor Who season 3 hard to get into. I don't really care about Martha at this point, and her flirting with the doc and moaning that he doesn't notice is just irritating given the season 2 finale (and because, well, they've known each other for what, a week?). She doesn't know that, but really, writers, why go down that road?

Also, why don't they dress up anymore? A pinstripe suit is pretty versatile and will pass in quite a lot of times - but bluejeans? On a woman? Granted, I'm only on ep 3.5, but still.

Torchwood is easier to like right now, but on the other hand it's got other frustrating things with it. For one it feels disjointed, I don't really get a sense of natural progression between the episodes. And some of the sex-and-relationship stuff seems very arbitrary and inconsistent.

I'm also sad they kept Tosh instead of Suzy, because I think that actress is much more interesting, and right now everyone except Gwen is kind of dull. Didn't Jack use to have a personality? BTW, are they ever going to explain how he got back to present-day earth? Inquiring minds want to know.

spoilers for Doctor Who 3.5-6 )

I watched the first couple of episodes of the new Doctor Who a year or so back, and thought it was rubbish. Now I'm trying again and I actually find it quite entertaining. I wonder if the change was caused by mainlining 7 seasons of Smallville [1] - innoculating me against bad special effects and stupid plots, and making Doctor Who seem like shakespeare by comparison.

There is one thing that bugs me though, a lot. They are going around in a time machine - surely if they fuck things upp, they can just come back around and have another go? Like, Rose accidentaly doesn't speak to her mother or bf for a year, because the Doctor has really bad aim with the Tardis, and everyone is really upset, because they thought she was dead. So do they say "oops", go back in the tardis, and return to the time they were supposed to land in, saving her loved ones from having to go through all that? No. They say "we were travelling, I meant to call" like a couple of idiots. Hello, time machine!! Use it. Gah.

[1] I had to write two papers in a fairly short time, and was in desperate need of denial-aids and procrastination tools. Don't ever make the mistake of getting me to talking about this show, you'll get an hour long lecture on how and where they went wrong and what should have been done instead. For some reason the whole wasted potential of it really gets up my nose.
